Inspired by Julie & Julia, my roomate has decided to make dinner twice a week with Julia Child’s recipes. Now, loving cooking, I wasn’t going to let her get away with getting to have all the fun to herself. Thanks to the abundant bookstores in Berkeley, I was able to salvage a Giada de Laurentiis cookbook and join right in!

Last night was our first night cooking, and to our surprise, a huge success. The menu?

-Parmesean Risotto

-Lemon butter artichokes (not fully cooked, but still good) paired with mayo.

-Butter (and I mean butter) Roasted Chicken

And since we’re in college, we paired it off with some wine (cheap of course). Pinot Noir Red for me and Sauvignon Blanc White for her and a 3rd friend.

Simple Mistakes.

I happened to come across this youtube video one day, and was extremely touched by the honesty of this video. Called “Pay Attention…” this video points out the accidents that happen on the road each day. Car accidents that just happen out of nowhere, for no apparent reason. Well, maybe someone could be at fault at times, but regardless, these accidents harm so many people. The driver, the child, the husband or wife, the community, and eventually, you.

The first time I watched this, it broke my heart. Sure, the video seems set-up and kind of fake at times, but that doesn’t stop you from realizing that it occurs everyday to people who don’t necessarily deserve that type of pain in their lives. I hope it touches you in some way, or at least encourages you to be more careful out on the road.

3 Cups of Tea

Greg Mortenson’s book, “Three Cups of Tea” is pure genius. I recently read this book as my first relaxing summer read. This novel provides insight into another world, and makes you grateful for what culture you live in. With all the things that are going on in today’s political world, its nice to see that there ARE people who care, and are willing to go the distance to make a difference. If those people didn’t exist, humanity wouldn’t exist. And we all know that we need some level of humanity to feel some level of safety.
